Role summary
Provide specialist factory maintenance, control-system troubleshooting and reliability improvements, working independently and supporting production teams.
Main responsibilities
- Perform expert breakdown repair, preventive maintenance and mechanical/electrical improvements; support production-line troubleshooting within the job specialty.
- Program, troubleshoot and analyze complex control systems, including software, hardware and configuration faults.
- Use predictive-maintenance results to assess equipment: infrared, ultrasonic, power-quality, laser, ball-bar and vibration techniques are listed.
- Lead continuous-improvement work and cost savings; source parts and propose engineered alternatives that improve reliability.
- Work independently to industry standards, maintain 5S/housekeeping, and follow safety rules while identifying unsafe conditions and behavior.
- May set up and operate lathes, drill presses, grinders or other machining equipment, and may perform welding.
- Investigate maintenance methods, tools and innovations; update technical documentation and analyze CMMS records/history.
- Support cost analysis for new equipment, repair/rebuild proposals and savings; provide technical quotations and time-and-materials work when required.
- Coach less-proficient technicians and take assigned project-management responsibilities; complete on-the-job training and technical self-study.
Qualifications
- Required: High-school completion or GED.
- Required: A technical associate degree plus 7 years of experience in the specific industry, or 10 years of experience in that industry.
- Required: Predictive-technology proficiency, including vibration analysis or laser-interferometer work, precision alignment and applicable process-equipment maintenance.
- Required: Understand electrical, mechanical, fluid-power and control systems; diagnose problems, evaluate solutions, perform repairs and use suitable hand/specialized tools.
- Preferred: Six Sigma experience.
Working conditions
Factory work is typically very loud and may involve hazardous materials, slippery floors, weather and electrical-shock risks. Duties include standing/walking, hand use/reaching, climbing or balancing at height with ladders/lifts, and kneeling/crouching/crawling in confined spaces.
